| Abstract: | This paper argues that the economic analysis of the income distribution is in need of further development before one can hope to give a definitive answer to the questions in which the ordinary person is interested, such as what determines the extent of inequality and why has inequality increased. An overall framework is needed, both empirical and conceptual, within which to fit the different mechanisms. The contributions mentioned and others not covered are a wellcome indication that income distribution is beginning to receive the attention which it merits. |
