Abstract:In 1997, the total retail sales of consumer goods for the whole year will grow steadily and no great fluctuation will emerge. The electron and electrical products will still be the major goods on consumer goods market. According to forecast, the total retail sales of social consumer goods in 1997 will rise by 20% or so compared with that in 1996. Among them, the total retail sales of urban consumer goods will reach 1805.8 billion yuan or so, up 21.3% over 1996 while that of county-level or below rural consumer goods, 1187.8 billion yuan or so, up 18% over 1996. This paper also raises policy suggestions on the development of consumer goods market in 1997.
