| Abstract: | The paper looks at the core elements of league organization in American pro team sports. After exposing the historical context in which the basic institutional innovations were made, the analysis focuses on the economics of those institutions. The author of the article states that managing team effects, safeguarding specific investments and cultivating national publics are the main rationales in the presented efficiency-explanation. The paper provides a substation list of references on this subject. |
