| Abstract: | The purpose of this article is to present a preliminary analysis of labour market data produced by the Employment Department for the hotel and catering industry (HCI) in the 1980s and thereby begin to contribute to an update of the important work of Robinson and Wallace which considered similar data for the 1970s. The article seeks to identify the main trends in the structure and nature of HCI employment in the 1980s, compare these with developments of the preceding decade and identify issues of potential significance, particularly in relation to future research. |
