Abstract:Most lodging-industry firms with a presence on the worldwide web seem to assume that all web-page visitors can read and write in fluent English. Of course, the truth is that travelers' native languages are diverse and often do not include English. In fact, this study shows that most travelers want to communicate in their own language. Moreover, the very act of typing or keyboarding free- form text in any language introduces problems and challenges related to the accurate translation of the writer's intentions. While several automatic language- translation programs exist (and some are available for free), the results can range from somewhat useful to quite silly.
