Abstract:This study helps to the understanding of what and why environmental sustainability practices are adopted by hotel companies by examining the Spanish hotel companies. In an attempt to interpret hotel companies' facilitators and barriers, three approaches are combined to explain the selective adoption of environmental tools: the perspectives of competitive advantages, the human cognitive process and stakeholder's influence.
