Abstract:Attention is called to the fact that human resources information system is not functioning as it should in many organizations. Maintenance supersedes retrieval as the main activity, and most resources are spent on enhancements, error correction, updates and accomplishment of elusive mainframe-micro linkages. An overworked staff is unable to respond to managers' request for new reports or processes based on the central human resources data base and system. The revitalization of the human resources information system's mission with a new staff is recommended.
