Abstract: | It was recognized that the athmosphere of mergers and acquisitions is not favorable for R&D. However, in an exploration of whether firms would become more defensive, it was found that top management had not been unduly harsh in its treatment of R&D. People felt their CEO has been supportive, that there is improved understanding of the need for and reliance on technology , and that R and D is more influental than in the past. The present classic paradigm for industrial R&D is examined and also is its environment. Then, the major changes that have occured in the recent past, are considered. Finally, some important issues are proposed that R and D executives need to consider in the emerging climate for R&D. |
