Abstract: | Monsanto, like so many companies today, is technology-driven and global. It produces and sells diverse products, everything from chemicals for agriculture to plastic interlayers for shatterproof windshields. During the past decade, Monsanto changed in a number of ways while making continuous efforts to preserve its technological leadership. The history and results of this endeavour are described throwing light on the details of inspiring more productive R&D, integrating R&D with the rest of the company, focusing and controlling R&D, going outside the company for new products, building consensus between executives and professionals, and terminating projects that had no chance of success. |
