Abstract:Steel is one of modern civilization's essential basic materials, and Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC) considers its role to be one of supplying society with quality steels at reasonable prices. To realize this, the authors of this article carry out state-of-the art R&D activities regarding steel materials and their manufacturing technologies. Having demonstrated its resourcefulness in the efficient execution of R&D, NSC is about to give birth to an ambitious new core of R&D. NSC's current diversification plans call for steel to account less than 50% of its sales in near future.
