| Abstract: | This paper investigates firms' incentives and disincentives to form Research Joint Ventures (RJVs) by using an endogenous switching model and data from the US National Cooperative Research Act. The results suggest that size difference between companies is a disincentive to form RJVs and that the opportunity to share costs is a significant incentive to form RJVs. |
