Abstract:Results from 32 project group in a large research and development organization showed that the group cohesiveness, physical distance, job satisfaction and innovative orientation were associated with performance of projects. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that the group cohesiveness accounted for the unique variance in four performance criteria, both contemporaneously and one year later. An innovative orientation added unique variance to the quality of projects as rated initially by group members and as rated by management one year later. Type of research and development moderated the relationship between innovative orientation and members' ratings of project quality.
