Abstract:Many of the medium-sized employers are excellent technicians and extremely good engineers, but their knowledge of business and their capacity in innovation management are often weak. The general characteristics of small and medium-sized firms are considered. A number of management instruments are offered for promoting innovation: incentive system, organizational structures, techniques for analysis and ideas, techniques for the supply of evaluation if new ideas, project management, product planning, research and development, protection of patents, trademarks etc. The firm's size does not impose any limit on the use of the techniques outlined. It is shown how a research and technology policy of the State can help medium-sized firms.
