| Abstract: | Some of the changes in USA patent enforcement are described. They are enhancing the value of patents. Some of the trends in seeking and gaining patents are also described and it is discussed why the R and D community has been slower than the legal community or general management to recognize the implications of these trends and changes. Some concrete actions are suggested which R and D directors should take in order to gain better advantage of the opportunities the strengthened patent environment affords. At many USA corporations - such as 3M, General Electric and Eastman Kodak, R and D has instituted active and innovative programs to spread both awareness and new patent practices. |
