Abstract: | Some R and D people need their mental horizons widened regarding the importance of understanding customers' priorities, and the vagaries of technological innovation. R and D people should stand up to the pressures and define the limits of R and D resources. R and D people should not be allowed to use the uncertainties of R and D as a security blanket. They have to place people from different functions who are supposed to be working together in the same office. Managers in operating divisions do not really want their operations disturbed by a brand-new technology. Therefore they must be persuaded in favour of it. |
