Abstract: | Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are collectively responsible for a significant portion of the total environmental burden worldwide. The environmental management system (EMS) is a tool used to improve environmental performance. However, it has the disadvantage that it has been developed for larger organizations. Joint EMS and group certification is a common approach in Swedish SMEs. It is effective for small and micro-sized organizations, but joint environmental policy and objectives and insufficient environmental organization are threatening to undermine the trustworthiness of the approach. |
