Abstract:This paper analyses the French market for baby care. The declining birth rate until 1994, accompanied by economic uncertainty and strikes, has led to depressed growth in many areas of the baby care market. Total value for the market in 1996 amounted to FF1,018 million, representing a value growth of 3.1% over the 1992-1996 period. L'Oreal Mixa brand has maintained a leading position in the mass distribution baby care market with a 20.0% share in 1996. Multiple retailers have taken the lions share of baby care distribution over the review period, with a market share of 65.1% by value in 1996.
