| Abstract: | The question of the necessity of tax increases for financing the costs of the German unification is examined. The deficit of the budget in Germany is increasing and the interest that is to be paid after the debt will soar from 80 million Mark in 1980 to 188 million in 1995. Tax increase is the only solution for the debt problem that the politicians of the German government can propose. They are full of ideas when it comes to introduce new taxes and charges but have no initiatives when reduction of subsidies and other measures of sparing seem to be necessary. The possible ways of stopping the escalation of indebtedness proposed by independent experts are considered. |
