Abstract: | In a total of three simulation sessions the effects of two response styles - extreme response style and yea-saying tendency - are investigated first isolated, and in the last session in a combination of the two. Results are presented. The damaging impact of respondents with an extreme response style was found to be fairly moderate. The impact of yea-saying is dependent on whether the variables are based on positively-keyed items or on negatively-keyed ones. In the combined simulation the effects caused by one type of response style were to a certain extent eliminated by the response effects caused by the other response style. So, conclusions based on regression and factor analyses can be fairly valid. |
