Abstract:Top management's commitment to a course of business action is reflected in part by its choice of reward systems for its managers and employees. Reward strategies for R&D should be part of the basic management systems used in research and technology management. However, the literature on management, while containing much on reward systems in general and much on research management, is rather quiet about the intersection of the two topics. This article is an attempt to rectify this omission and to give research executives some guidance on how to structure reward systems for R&D in their own organizations.
