Abstract:Professional rodeos continue to be popular events. The reasons given for the continued popularity of rodeos range from their entertainment value to their social and cultural significance. Based on surveys of fans at three types of professional rodeos, this paper examines the determinants of professional rodeo attendance. It is found that the frequency of rodeo attendance varies across socioeconomic groups. Also, the affirmation of an individual's identity with western culture and social interaction emerge as significant determinants of rodeo attendance, complementing the value of the rodeo events.
