Abstract: | Many people argue that time is a better performance measure than cost to manage financial performance, an argument that this article challenges. In new product development, an "acceleration trap" occurs - i.e., a point at which further cycle compression may not add to a product's lifetime revenues and may even impair financial results. Since many businesses have no choice but to shorten their new product development cycles to meet their competition, they must seek ways to avoid the acceleration trap. |
