| Abstract: | The article describes the recent trends and developments in East Asia. In particular, it focuses on the various factors which account for its economic success and the dynamism that exists within the region. It proposes that East Asia will increase in economic importance in the years ahead. However, the rapid rise of the East Asian economies is not without problems. The article highlights some of the social and political challenges they face and discusses the likely future developments of the region, drawing implications for policy makers in the Western world. |
