Abstract: | Global alliances are currently hailed as an effective growth strategy. For the small high technology venture, close affiliation with corporate partners is often a necessity. This article explores the experience of a UK semi-conductor form, Anamartic, which entered into alliance with USA, Japanese, and German firms as a potential route for growth. The company's experience reveals how arduous and problematic such a route can prove, and how the new venture can find itself locked into a trajectory shaped by the needs of powerful corporate partners which reduce its capacity to adapt ist strategy to changing circumstances. |
