Abstract:Purchasing power parity is, without much doubt, one of the most controversial and heavily tested empirical issues in the international economic/financial literature. Underlying this interest are several factors bearing implications for theoretical models of exchange rate determination -- for example, currency re-evaluations, intercountry comparisons of living standards, measurements of deviation of disequilibrium from existing fixed or floating regimes, claim the authors of the paper.
