Abstract:Motorola began a new program of skills training in 1980. Its goal was to tech its workforce statistical process control and other quality improvement techniques. As the program evolved, however, the company made one disturbing discovery after another. The training program was altered and widened to include everything from reading to graduate work in computer integrated manufacturing. Added to this article are three short notes - the language of quality, - curriculum development at motorola, and - finding and training faculty.
