Abstract: | An increasingly important aspect of product design is: disassembly for material recovery opportunities (MRO). MRO is defined as reclaiming post-consumer products for recycling, remanufacturing and re-use. The authors develop a methodology to identify cost-effective characteristics of disassembly for the recovery of products , to improve the efficiency of the disassembly planning process and to optimize the disassembly sequence. The 'disassemblability' of a product is the ability to optimize the design and disassembly process for removal of specific parts or materials while minimizing costs. |
