Abstract:Datini was at the head of a vast group of companies scattered throughout the Mediterranean basin and as far away as Bruges and London. He was in charge of their general management which he exercised by means of numerous written instructions which have survived. Coeur was brilliantly successful thanks to a carefully maintained confusion between his own interests and those of the king, but this finished by destroying him. Cotrugli, who came from Dalmatia, was active mainly in Naples.
