Abstract:Many companies that adapted assessment centres for purely developmental purposes in the early 1990s are now seeking a compromise, according to Charles Woodruffe. He proposes a model to assist them in achieving this. Designing assessment centres for an organisation's existing employees is far trickier than it is for external applicants, because there is always a danger that unsuccessful candidates will become demotivated. Traditional centres treat staff in much the same way as external applicants.
