Abstract: | Guessing who will succeed Suharto - and how - has become a growth industry. There's one leadership-succession scenario that's being heard with increasing frequency these days: President Suharto, Indonesia's ruler for the past 30 years, is re-elected to a seventh five-year term next April. Later , at the end of his second year, - the turn of the century does sound persuasively symbolic, after all - the then 80-year-old leader hands over power to the vice-president, who proceeds to initiate a programme of political reform. |
