Abstract:This is a case study of value for many companies raising a number of issues of generic interest. It has proven useful to conceptualise strategic activity by reference to the complete value system. The nature and needs of both customers and competitors are rarely stable. Collaboration in the co-production of value, with consequent synergistic benefits may enable networks of organisations to achieve sustained competitive advantage. Collaboration and greater seamlessness within a value system help create the necessary flexibility to achieve a permanent readiness for change of both "soft" and "hard", such as re-configuring value added elements, changes.
