Abstract:This study discovers some useful facts about the relationship between some key category-level decisions that retailers make. Retailers' allocation of shelf space as well as the breadth of variety offered varies accross categories. Heuristics are developed for determining what retailers should do with regard to these decisions. This study explores how these constructs are actually related in practice. The study utilizes data obtained from Marsh Supermarkets to explore the relationships between these variables. The results give a set of raw facts concerning the relationship between some of grocery retailers' category-level decisions.
