Abstract:In this article, an equilibrium search model is developed with a continuous distribution of firm productivity types within a given labour market. Equilibrium is characterized, and expressions are derived for the endogenous equilibrium wage distributions, and the set of wage distributions that can be generated by the model are also characterized. A structural non-parametric estimation method is developed for the productivity distribution. The model is estimated using French longitudinal survey data on labour supply, and the results are compared with those from a French panel data set of firms. The results are informative on the degree to which firms exploit search actions.
