| Abstract: | This paper examines the effect of the internationalization of the multinational corporation (MNC) on the behavior of its top management team (TMT). In particular, the authors seek to improve our understanding of two behaviors related to the management of international business (IB): (1) the extent to which the members of the TMT personally spend time outside the home country in the various markets in which the MNC does business, and (2) the extent to which the members of the TMT meet face-to-face to discuss international business issues. The authors use a tacit knowledge perspective to explain the link between the MNC's internationalization and both the extent of its TMT members' personal presence overseas and the extent of its TMT members' face-to-face interaction on IB matters of strategic importance. |
