Abstract:After decades in the doldrums, Madagascar's economy is booming at last. The main catalyst of growth has been an influx of foreign investors taking advantage of low wages and the country's unrestricted access to the US market. But bottlenecks continue to dog process. The author considers economic changes, militant rhetoric, textile industry booms, the IT niche, tourism industry, mining, "pink gold" (shrimps), agriculture, rise yields, infrastructure improvements. Mining is promising growth sector. Scrimps are an important part of the country's export. The agricultural sector shows a total dichotomy. Rise yields are very low. There are 25,000 French citizens in Madagascar, and French investments account for two thirds of total foreign investments. Many feel there are opportunities to be seized.
