Abstract:The article deals with discount stores, discussing how hard discounting in Germany has prospered and dynamically changed over the years, as well as retail managers' expectations from future discounting towards a new strategic harmony. Hard discount stores in Germany, such as Aldi and Lidl, have a famous history since 1960s in German retailing. They account for nearly 35 per cent of German grocery sales. They seem to be the most exportable retail concept of Germany.
