Abstract:Post-September 11 patriotic advertising appeals caused a major reaction in the popular and academic advertising press. This article asks, when is such use of patriotic appeals unethical and can systematic standard be established? To answer the question, the study examines the literature on the phenomenon of patriotism and identifies categories of appropriate and inappropriate use of patriotic appeals.
