| Abstract: | This paper examines the connection btw. long-run trends and cyclical (hereafter as: cycl.) variation in earnings (here as: erngs.) inequality (as: ineql). A model is developed in which cycl. and trend ineql. are related. It is found that in the model recessions tend to amplify long-run trends. There is evidence presented that during the 1st half of the 20th century erngs. disparities appeared to fall more rapidly in downturns. |
