Abstract:This study aims to answer research questions on people's willingness to donate money (hereafter as: p-w-to-d-m.) to help alleviate poverty. First, what are the individual (or micro) determinants (here as: detms.) and state-level (macro) detms. of welfare states influencing p-w-to-d-m. to the poor? Second, to what extent do individual detms. for donating money to the poor interact with state-level detms.? The 1993 Eurobarometer survey is used, containing relevant data on nearly 14.000 inhabitants from 15 European countries. The results show that economic situation, religion, political stances and types of welfare regimes (as: w-regs.) influence p-w-to-d-m. to the poor. Interestingly, education and living conditions interact with types of w-regs.
