Abstract:This article examines whether financial analystsÂ’ optimism in forecasts and recommendations vary with the business activities used to fund research. The results suggest that analysts at companies that funded research through underwriting and trading activities made less optimistic forecasts and recommendations than analysts at brokerage companies who performed no underwriting.
