| Abstract: | Labour productivity in Finnish manufacturing industry increased at the rapid average annual rate of 5% 1975-2003. The objective of this article is to define the proximate sources of growth in Finnish manufacturing industry which matched the labour productivity level of the USA by the 1990s. Labour costs and unit labour costs remained at only three-quarters of the US level though actual hourly compensation increased steadily. After 1995 a third of overall Finnish economic growth came from the manufacturing industry while its nominal share was a quarter. |
