Abstract:This article looks to identify determinants of cross-country disparities in personal computers and internet penetration. The authors use a panel of 161 countries over the period of 1999-2001 and economic-, demographic-, and infrastructure indicaotrs, telecommunication pricing measures, and regulatory quality. The authors identify similar patterns in computer use and internet penetration with some exceptions in telephone density and age dependency that matter less.Region-specific explanations are mainly similar. Results suggest taht investments in human capital, telecommunication infrastructure and regulatory matters may narrow tha gap between PC and internet use.
