Abstract:The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer has reduced the use of ozone-depleting substances worldwide. The problem is that for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) the possibility to use CFC-powered medical metered-dose inhalers (MDIs) is essential. This paper examines the public health consequences of environmental regulation and the possibility to follow the Montreal Protocol without compromising the treatment of patients who currently use MDIs.
