Abstract:This article studies business-university collaborations and aims to create a screening model for mapping the ways commercially applicable research can be sold to the private sector. The study indicates that the best way to promote business-university co-operation are so called technology shops, which enable firms to access recent research by first paying a fixed fee for joining and then a rather low cost for every piece of research they wish to buy. The framework proposed by the study suggests that technology shops benefit both the private sector and universities, and they also improve welfare and bring more attention to the commercial potential of research.
