Abstract: | The purpose of this paper is to examine the doing of gender in the Israeli hi-tech sector, which is characterized by the new transnational economy and pronatalist Israeli society. The study reveals that by creating a space between the local and the global cultural repertoires and building up a new femininity, Israeli hi-tech women are able to question both the discourse of traditional Israeli femininity and the modern discourse of the ideal hi-tech worker. The article argues that such bicultural experiences have strong potential for disrupting discourses that are essential in the reproduction of social inequalities. |
