Abstract: | Net additions to stock (NAS) are an indicator based on economy-wide material flow accounting and analysis. NAS, a measure of the physical growth rate of an economy, can be used for estimates of future waste flows (here as: f-w-fls). This article presents a study with one leading objective: to make available direct NAS data for the Czech Republic (here as: C.R.), which could later be used for predicting f-w-fls. The NAS for the C.R. calculated using the direct method is equal to cirka 65 million tonnes on average in 2000-2002 and is ca. 27 percent lower than the NAS through the indirect method. Durables account for about 2 percent of the total direct (as: t-d.) NAS, the rest being attributed to infrastructure and buildings. The t-d. NAS is dominated by non-metal construction commodities, e.g. building stone and bricks, equaling ca. 89 percent of the t-d. NAS. |
