Abstract: | In the debate on short-termism (hereafter as: s-trsm.), the focus has been on the economic factors of capital markets and performance measurement systems. This study redirects Laverty's (1996) extended debate by drawing on a broad management and accounting literature, thereby developing testable theoretical explanations of s-trsm. The resulting hypotheses are tested in a telecommunications company. There is support found for Laverty's argument that individual and organizational factors are important determinants of s-trsm. |
