Abstract:This study explores the role of management in situations where the market transaction costs of using local, independent operators are insignificant at market entry, but grow over time. The key question is: What management instruments may ensure persistent concurrence btw. changing pressure for internalization (here as: int.) in a foreign market and the effectuated int. of a MNE in that market? There is shown the operating cost saving potential of putting in place options for gradual int. Practical examples are outlined. It is emphasized that gradual int. pertains to appropriation of local operators' financial assets and also to their non-financial assets in relation to user rights, customer relations, and value added activities.
