Abstract:The purpose of this article is to study the antecedents of organizational misconduct. By conducting a web-based survey of employed students the authors find that organizational factors, rather than personal factors, are significant predictors of misconduct and job satisfaction among employees. Formal compliance practices and ethical climate are defined as independent drivers of misconduct. Moral reasoning, age, sex, ethnicity, job status or the size and type of organization were not able to predict misconduct. The findings of the study emphasize the power of senior manager and supervisor actions in promoting the moral organization.
