Abstract:The questions of what part does strategy choice play in company success,how do companies develop their strategic capabilities and what part in this process should corporate planners play are investigated,concentrating on the level of the individual business unit. The differences between the features of the fire fighting companies and those having well developed strategic management capabilities are discussed. On the base of personal experiences as well as that of a survey the process of establishing a corporate planning unit is drawn up.
